ASQ/APICS Joint Meeting: Monday, November 17th at Jimmy’s at the Quality Inn, Winchester.
Dr. Gordon DeMeritt, Chair, Department of Business Administration and FACS, Shepherd University presenting:
Land without Foundation
China is an amazing country. The pace of growth is almost beyond comprehension. Whole citieshuge, vertical, modern citieshave sprung up in the last twenty-five years. Complex highway systems have spread out around those cities. Businesses and industries have been established and have blossomed as the basis of support for those cities, and all of it has happened since the mid-1980s. Yet, in my recent two-week tour of China, I discovered a nation without a foundation. China is a nation based upon a 1949 revolution without a foundation of popular support. It is a nation based upon an economy without a foundation of internally-developed businesses. Those modern cities are superstructures without infrastructures. My brief visit revealed an exciting, booming nation; but it also revealed a nation based upon pretense without a foundation.
Registration 5:30 – 6 pm
Dinner 6-7 pm
Presentation 7-8 pm
Cost: $22.
To register: contact Jerry Clark at jerryvpmep@comcast.net by noon, Friday, November 14th.

QUAD/GRAPHICS
Leading the industry as innovative people driving print. Quad/Graphics is the quintessential American business success story. By doing things differently and better over the past 35-plus years, we’ve grown from humble beginnings in rural Pewaukee, Wis., into the largest privately held printer in the world today. Despite our size and success, we remain the breakaway company of our early days, asking “what if?” and “why not?” at every turn to uncover the next revolutionary idea that will push print’s potential and make it more cost effective and profitable for our clients. With 12,000 employees and $2 billion in annual sales, we’re using our industry-leading data-through-distribution capabilities to make print more immediate, more targeted and more relevant to the recipient than ever before.
Our mission
We are a value driven company committed to our clients, employee owners, shareholders, communities and the environment. As the industry leader, we take print to a higher level through service, quality and technological innovation. We will grow profitability as the high value, low-cost producer.

Volunteer Advocates for Children
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are trained community volunteers appointed by district court Judges to speak for the best interests of children who are brought before the court for reasons of abuse or neglect. He or she is an official part of judicial proceedings, working alongside attorneys and social workers. By handling only two or three cases at a time, the volunteer has time to thoroughly explore the history of each assigned case. He or she talks with the child, parents, family members, neighbors, school officials, doctors and others involved in the child's background who might have facts about the case. The volunteer reviews all court facts about the case and all court documents pertaining to the case. He or she then is expected to submit formal reports to the Judge at every scheduled hearing or review. The volunteer advocate continues to monitor the case to assure that the judicial and child welfare systems are moving ahead to secure a safe, permanent home for the child and that court-ordered services are provided to the child and family. The CASA can be an invaluable resource for the attorney for the child and the social worker in reaching their goals for permanency. Please contact us at info@casaep.org or
